Return Ingredients to Pantry

“Hi, at what point is it no longer possible to return a meal’s ingredients to the Pantry? Does this happen once preparation begins, or can they still be returned even after the meal is finished?”

As stated in the Project Specification:

Page 12, Lines 28-31:

It can happen that a meal in an order is aborted, e.g., when a customer has been waiting for too long and leaves the restaurant, or a meal is not finished at the end of the opening time. All ingredients that have been reserved for such a meal or that have been used in an unfinished meal will be returned to the pantry.

The return rule applies only to the meals within the kitchen (regardless of being finished (cooked) or not).

Once the meal is served to the customer, it won‘t be returned to the pantry [Page 21, lines 1-2].

According to the spec:

When the cook starts with their assigned dish, the cook doesn’t just cook the meals wanted in that single order but for all orders that include this dish

How does this work when one order is aborted? So if 5 customers order a dish, and 2 abort the order, do the ingredients for the 2 aborted orders go back to the pantry and the cook continues with the 3 remaining orders?

Yes, that is correct.
